How-to

Step by Step

1

Draw the 5-point star 1

1 scale on aluminum foil, transfer to 2 mm EVA and cut with a fresh blade; a clean edge avoids sanding later

2

Give a subtle curve by heating the EVA to 80 °C for 3 s

Give a subtle curve by heating the EVA to 80 °C for 3 s; curve it around a 500 ml bottle so it doesn’t flatten

3

Paint the gradient with a makeup sponge

pink at the center, blue at the tips, dry between coats

4

Glue a magnet on the back with super-glue; wait 5 min, test the pull

it should release with a “clack” – neither stuck nor weak

5

Headband

cut a 5 mm EVA strip 2.5 cm wide, 55 cm long; line the inside with non-woven fabric so it doesn’t slip on hair

6

Final assembly

mark in the mirror where the stars “float” (usually 4 cm above the eye line); glue matching magnets on the headband using hot glue reinforced by a 2 mm EVA square

1. Analyzing Micomet’s 2D Design

Before cutting or gluing anything, sit in front of the screen and study the original model. The VTuber Micomet – a fusion of the idols Suisei Hoshimachi and Sakura Miko – carries a look that seems drawn to defy physics: twin bangs the size of the head, an ultra-saturated pink-blue gradient, floating stars, and a forelock that defies gravity.
The trick of 2D-to-3D adaptation is deciding what will be translated literally (colors, proportions) and what will be suggested (infinite volume, anime highlights). Jot down the areas of highest contrast: blue tips, pink roots, white V-shaped highlights. This will serve as a map for blending fibers and painting.
Finally, measure the visual offset: the hair draws an isosceles triangle around the face. If you reproduce that triangle 1:1 in width it will look like a helmet; the fix is to trim 15 % in side width and lengthen 10 % in height to keep the “cartoon look” without losing real-world femininity.

Golden tip: save screenshots of the official model in three angles (front, ¾, and profile) and print on A4. Use a ruler to note central bang height, distance between stars, and forelock angle; these measurements will serve as 3D reference throughout the whole project.

2. Internal Wig Structure: Support and Volume

A voluminous wig is not just hair – it’s engineering. Start with a 60 cm lace-front in a light color (color #60 or #1001) so it won’t compete with the gradient you’ll add.
The skeleton has three layers:

  1. 2 mm aluminum wire sewn in a perimeter circle (basting stitch is fine) to support the top;
  2. a “cap” of crossed-rib non-woven fabric – cut as a diamond – that will hold the extra 120 g of fiber weight;
  3. a cork elastic band sewn inside the lace to distribute weight on the scalp.

Checkpoint: turn the wig upside-down; it must keep the oval shape without flopping sideways. If it folds, increase the wire diameter by 1 cm until balanced.

Alternative material: if you can’t find aluminum wire, recycle a 4 mm pet-leash hoop wrapped in electrical tape; it keeps curvature and cuts cost by ~30 %.

3. Shaping the Strands: Cutting, Waving, and Texture

To get the illustration-level volume without weight, use a fiber mix: 60 % high-temp and 40 % kanekalon. High-temp holds thermal curves; kanekalon creates the light tips that “float” on camera.

  1. Divide into four sectors (front, top, nape, and sides) clipping each one separately.
  2. Cut in inverted layers: inner wefts 5 cm shorter than outer ones; this creates natural scaffolding.
  3. To wave, roll 4 cm wefts on 10 mm EVA rods; mist with water containing 5 % hairspray, dry with a 130 °C hairdryer for 8 s, release when cool.
  4. Blend the gradient using the “dry-brush fusion” technique: paint loose fibers with pink-blue acrylic diluted 1:1 with 70 % alcohol; brush with a toothbrush to erase brush tracks.

Checkpoint: shake the wig; strands should swing independently but return to original shape. If they clump, reduce the amount of hairspray.

4. Accessories: Stars, Clips, and Headband – Step-by-Step in EVA

The charm of Micomet cosplay lies in the foam accessories that float near the hair, imitating an anime scene. Below, the fold-free EVA method:

Mandatory materials

  • 2 mm EVA for stars and fine details
  • 5 mm EVA for headband base (rigidity without weight)
  • 20 W hot-glue gun and sticks
  • Pink-blue gradient acrylic paint set (same as the wig)
  • 10×3 mm neodymium magnets for quick attachment

Step-by-step

  1. Draw the 5-point star 1:1 scale on aluminum foil, transfer to 2 mm EVA and cut with a fresh blade; a clean edge avoids sanding later.
  2. Give a subtle curve by heating the EVA to 80 °C for 3 s; curve it around a 500 ml bottle so it doesn’t flatten.
  3. Paint the gradient with a makeup sponge: pink at the center, blue at the tips, dry between coats.
  4. Glue a magnet on the back with super-glue; wait 5 min, test the pull: it should release with a “clack” – neither stuck nor weak.
  5. Headband: cut a 5 mm EVA strip 2.5 cm wide, 55 cm long; line the inside with non-woven fabric so it doesn’t slip on hair.
  6. Final assembly: mark in the mirror where the stars “float” (usually 4 cm above the eye line); glue matching magnets on the headband using hot glue reinforced by a 2 mm EVA square.

Checkpoint: shake your head vigorously; no star should fly off. If one does, swap the magnet for one 20 % thicker.

5. Final assembly and comfort tweaks

Stick 2 cm of adhesive Velcro tape inside the headband; it allows micro-adjustment of pressure without creating bumps.
Put on the wig, position the headband on top, align the lace front with the start of your natural hair; secure with 4 safety pins in an X pattern – crossed locking prevents front wobble.
For events over 4 h, distribute 20 g of ballast: 10 g of dry sand inside organza sachets inside the headband, 10 g in TNT bags sewn at the wig base. The weight balances the set, reducing neck fatigue.

6. Maintenance and transport

Always store the wig on a foam or PVC stand; hanging it on a hanger stretches the lace.
Between uses, shake gently and brush with a wide-bristle brush; if frizz appears, mist with water containing 10 % fabric softener, air-dry.
Foam accessories go in a separate hard case; magnets stuck to fabric can snag wig fibers.
If paint chips, touch up only with a dry brush – repainting with a wet brush peels the EVA layer.

Storage in humid days

In areas of high humidity (>75 %), place silica-gel packets inside the storage box to prevent mold on the lace. Replace packets every 3 months or when the indicator changes color.

Common mistakes and how to fix them

  1. Excessive volume on the sides → face looks wider
Fix: cut inner wefts 3 cm shorter and tease only the center; sides keep 70 % of original length.
  2. Gradient looks “striped”
Fix: mix 1 part paint to 2 parts alcohol; dab with sponge, don’t drag.
  3. Stars won’t stick to headband after 2 uses
Fix: clean glue spot with alcohol before re-gluing; swap super-glue for 5-min epoxy if the event is outdoor (sweat).
  4. Neck hurts after 30 min
Fix: reduce 30 g of fiber or shift ballast backward, not upward; test head-up stance 5 min before leaving.

Now just hit the camera: your VTuber cosplay has come to life, with a voluminous wig that sways, stars that float, and a headband that doesn’t torture. Ready to shine at the next convention — or even go live as an offline VTuber!
