Idol lashes must look visibly “fake” yet feel comfortable. Choose flexible nylon bands; stiff cotton ones lift when you smile. Apply the first pair right against the naturals; the second should sit 1 mm above, layering volume. Use black latex glue if you want to hide the band; otherwise, clear glue keeps the look more innocent.

Skin Prep: HD foundation for studio photos

The base for Super Sonico makeup has to be flawless under flash and studio light, because any flaw becomes the focus in pictures. Start with a light skincare routine—no heavy oils that melt the foundation. Use an HD primer like Koloss HD Primer or Ruby Rose Blur Stick; both are budget-friendly (R$ 35-50) and control oil for up to 6 hours at a con.

Foundation choice is critical: pick oil-free formulas with a matte or semi-matte finish. Apply with a damp sponge in light taps, thin layer over thin layer, until you get full coverage without heaviness. The shade must be exactly the same as your neck; Super Sonico has no bronzed contour, so uniformity is mandatory. Correct dark circles and redness with salmon concealer, then set with translucent HD powder—Vult Compact Powder or NYX HD Powder cost R$ 45-70 and don’t give “ghost” flashback.

Checkpoint: Take a selfie with phone flash in a dark room. Skin should look smooth, with no white or cracked areas. If you see “flashback”, switch powders or use less.

Next worry: how to keep the base intact after 3 hours in line? The answer comes in the final setting step.

Safety & Hygiene: avoid allergies and breakouts

Before applying anything, do a 24-hour patch test on your arm; redness or itching means sensitivity. Use only products within expiry—outdated bases oxidize and stain. To clean tweezers and curlers, wipe with 70 % alcohol and let dry; this prevents folliculitis. If you have active acne, choose oil-free, non-comedogenic bases, remove with bi-phase remover and finish with micellar water to avoid clogging pores.

Brows & Nose: flattening the 3D

In Super Sonico cosplay, brows must be thin, arched and lighter than your natural color. Use an ashy-brown pencil two tones below your hair and draw a straighter line, slightly upturned. Eyelid oils erase the stroke, so set with matte brown shadow and retouch with clear brow gel.

The nose is another key point: the anime’s 2D look demands visual septum reduction. With a small brush and cool gray shadow, dot two points near the nostril wings and blend inward; then apply matte highlighter to the tip and septum line. The result is a “chibi” profile, shortened and edge-less.

Extra tip: if your nose is very prominent, use internal micropore tape (a “nose splint”) to lift the tip—30 min before makeup. This reduces natural shadow and helps contour “stick” better.

Checkpoint: Look sideways in the mirror. The nasal bridge should appear shorter and the tip more upturned, without overkill. If you see dark patches, blend more; if it disappeared too much, reinforce highlighter.

Idol Eyes: enlarging the size

This is the heart of Super Sonico makeup: big, round eyes with ultra-pointy anime eyeliner. Start by marking a new crease above your natural one with light peach shadow; pull the color almost to the brow tail—this “stretches” the lid upward.

Pick an ultra-black liquid liner with a fine felt-tip (Tracta or Revlon Color Stay run R$ 25-45). Draw a thick line at the lash root, angling sharply upward 30-35° at the outer corner. The trick is to extend the line 4-5 mm past the real corner, then curve back toward the center to form a filled triangle. This creates the elongated “kawaii” gaze.

On the waterline, use beige pencil to open; on the mobile lid, apply pearl white shadow to the center and pale pink to the sides. The combo widens the visible area and reinforces classic anime style.

Checkpoint: Look straight in the mirror. You should see three things: (1) symmetrical, pointy wings on both sides, (2) no skin “leaking” between liner and lashes, (3) wing tip pointing to the brow tail. Common mistakes: uneven tips or gaps—fix with a cotton swab dipped in remover.

Beyond the line, reinforce durability by pressing matte black shadow right along the liner; this “seals” it and prevents smudges. For very small eyes, apply “demi-wispies” falsies only on the outer third before the full pair—adds layers without weight. Finish with nude white pencil on the lower waterline; closes the gap and widens horizontally.

Lashes & Glitter: doll effect

Idol lashes are always multiple and voluminous. The rule here is “more is more”. Use a natural, thin-band pair as the base and, on top, a more dramatic pair with crisscross or “half” style applied only to the outer corner. This elongates without heaviness. Budget-friendly brands that hold up: Dalla 5-pair kit (R$ 25) or Eylure double pack (R$ 55-60).

Before gluing, curl your natural lashes with a heated curler for 5 seconds. Apply adhesive directly to the band (not the eye) and wait 30 sec until “nearly dry”—sticks faster and avoids mess. Place the 1st pair right at the root, then the 2nd slightly above, leaving a micro-gap that creates layers. Finish with waterproof black mascara to fuse everything.

IMPORTANT

For the typical magazine-shine, use light-pink or colorless loose glitter. Apply it with glitter glue (do not use white glue) only on the center of the mobile eyelid and on the inner corner. It reflects studio light and gives the “wet look” of idol CD covers.

Checkpoint: Blink hard three times. No fiber should shed or irritate. Look down and check for empty gaps between pairs — fill with a single loose individual lash fiber if needed.

Anime 2-D contour removes harsh shadows. Use two compact powders: one 1 shade darker (never gray) for jaw and temples, and one 2 shades darker to “erase” the cheek groove. Apply with an angled brush in a triangular shape, always pulling downward; it flattens real volume. Lighting must be matte — avoid highlighters with particles; use matte peach blush on the apples, extending almost to the temple for the Japanese idol “face card” shape.

Mouth and Neck: chibi proportion

Super Sonico’s mouth is small and arc-shaped; the lower lips are almost invisible. Use a cherry or baby-pink pencil to mark only the heart of the upper lip; blur outward with a cotton swab. Apply colorless liquid gloss only on the center, creating 3-D volume without lengthening.

For the neck, the goal is to even and “stretch.” Apply the same face foundation, then create a light ombré with matte gray shadow under the chin — it projects the head forward, imitating chibi anatomy. If wearing a pink wig, smudge a little makeup onto the hairline to avoid “floating mask.”

Checkpoint: Look down. The neck must be the same color as the face, with no harsh lines. If creases appear, dust more translucent powder; if it looks ashy, correct with liquid foundation mixed with moisturizer.

Setting and Flash: studio test

Finish with anti-shine setting spray (R$ 40–90). Hold 25 cm from the face, mist three times in a “T” and “X” pattern. Wait 2 min and do the definitive test: flash photo in a dark room. The skin must not flash white; glitters should sparkle, not look grainy; the liner must be intact.

If heading to outdoor events, carry a touch-up kit: beige pencil, mini-liner and cotton swabs. Heat and humidity melt lash glue first; press gently if it starts lifting, never pull.

Final checkpoint: give three little jumps. Nothing should run or smudge. If glitter migrates downward, remove with light tape — works better than a cotton swab.

Common mistakes and fixes

  1. White flashback — chose powder with talc or pure silica. Switch to compact foundation or mix translucent powder with bronzer 1:1.
  2. Asymmetrical liner — drew with eye open. Do the stroke facing away from mirror, eye half-closed; correct differences with pointed applicator.
  3. Lashes lifting at corner — glued directly to skin. Glue only on band and press 10 s; if it lifts, carry individual glue and apply with stick.
  4. Patchy contour — used cool powder on warm skin. Pick powder 1 shade darker, no gray undertone, and blend downward with large brush.
  5. “Aged” mouth — lined entire lip with pencil. Super Sonico has short lips; erase corners with concealer and keep shine only on center.

Step away from the mirror, strike three idol poses and click — your Super Sonico cosplay now has the kawaii gaze, the perfectly sharp anime liner, the voluminous idol lashes, and that 2-D contour that translates classic anime aesthetics for photos and stage.
