Ableism in the Cosplay Community. Let's Talk.

4580 visualizações Publicado em 2021-12-05
I'm sharing my story as a disabled cosplayer. I've shared a happy and censored version of this story many times before, but I think it's time to talk about the full truth. The full truth is that ableism does exist in the cosplay community. There are spaces that disabled cosplayers simply cannot be because they are not accessible to us. There are things that people say to disabled cosplayers and they hurt. And...I'm finally ready to talk about why I so abruptly left the TikTok platform. Through some reflection I have realized that these ableist things don't come from a place of malice, they come from a place of ignorance. WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT IT. If we share our stories and our hurt than things could change. People don't see us, and they just don't know how to help us, so we need to tell them.
PLEASE if you are a disabled cosplayer than help by sharing your story. My story alone can only do so much. We need people to see all of us.
