Happy New Year! with the new year comes new ventures, and i wanted to let you know what i've been up to these past few weeks.
back in november, one of my lovely karate kids (hai cheru) and i were having a discussion about the struggles of trying to keep warm with big hair. i'm an amateur seamstress due to cosplaying, but there are some things that i can make pretty well. i figured that making an ear warmer wouldn't be too hard. but since hair was a concern, i had the idea to line it with satin. the first few drafts were pretty rough, but eventually i had a great prototype and design. i went through about 12 drafts before i finally settled on a good pattern, which would come in various sizes and eventually new styles.
i launched #HeadwearByDee on December 1st, and i sold all through the month. they are fleece ear warmers lined with satin and a bit of padding on the interior to keep your ears warm. the satin lining will ensure that it doesn't tear at your hair, as so many traditional winterwear items seem to do. i offer a variety of colors, and every one has a name that has meaning to me, either after a loved one, or an inspiration. i also have a satin lined hat too.
compared to other handmade items, i've tried to keep the pricing fair, as the average satin lined ear warmers are one size only usually, and around $20 on etsy. my fleece variants are $15, and my fur variants are $20, only because fur is ridiculous to sew with and takes quite a bit of time. my hats are $18 as well and you can have a pom pom added.
i'm working on scarves to match the fleece headwear pieces as well, and for my youtube subscribers, i'm running a special to get 25% off your order with the coupon code NYE. (sure NYE is over, but it's still a new year damnit, so take this discount!) lol.
