Making a Facemask out of Old/Cheap Leggings! #DIY
apparently there's an audio issue with my laptop, and the voice over has static in the background, no matter what microphone or headset i use. i'm so sad about this, but there's nothing more i can do about that, i'm so sorry!
what's good? how ya doin? it's ya girl dee, back with another video.
i needed to make a facemask, but i was low on supplies. hit up my wal-mart, but they have virtually no supplies. joann is backed up for their buy online/pay in stores orders, and it would be weeks before amazon ships out, even with prime. what could i do to make a mask? then it dawned on me, to repurpose a pair of leggings that i had gotten as a gift. that was plenty of fabric, as well as elastic that i could work with. and even if it wasn't enough elastic, it was still plenty to make my own straps/ear hooks with.
turns out i have enough fabric on hand to make about 6-10 masks, depending on the type of leggings. the fabric in the video will make a solid 10, no question. the original fabric i used with the stars and suns, will make about 6 masks. with the elastic, if it's thin enough you don't have to splice it and make it thinner, but if it's too wide, you can cut it down to size. just be sure to zap the frayed edges with a torch (CAREFULLY) before you sew.
pattern sourced from this site:
she does have a tutorial, but again i modified this to my own liking.
CDC guidelines:
wash your hands of course, and stay safe.
ps, i'm not going to sell to the general public, just friends of mine on social media. i'm only one person! but i hope that this tutorial will help you re-purpose some fabric and help provide for those you care for too.
