Neo Queen Serenity Cosplay (with wings!) | behind the scenes/Snapchat Quickie

from Sausomecon 2018, which took place July 6-8th. footage is from July 6th & most of the morning of July 7th.
my favorite anime of all time is Sailor Moon, and i wanted to create Neo Queen Serenity. there aren't that many brown girls who portray Neo Queen Serenity, all the more reason i challenged myself to do so. i wanted to have WINGS, and some big ones at that. it was my largest prop i've ever made, and they were a success! i did get some inspiration from another tutorial, found here--

though rather than interlacing them with a corset, I opted to have them pop in and out of a base, to make them easier for travel. they're still majestic AF tho. I will try to get more pictures of the whole process so that you are able to see exactly what I did and will upload that in a separate video.

PVC tubing (not actual pipe, the tubing is plastic and flexible)
PVC tubing bend supporters
12 gauge wire & cutters

small wood plank and hand saw (both of which i had on hand already)
hot glue gun & sticks (if you don't have the large size hot glue gun, now would be the time to invest in one, and the 10 inch long 5/8mm diameter sticks)
felt (3 yards of the color you want your wings to be)
ostrich plume feathers

optional -- hot knife (i used this to modify the gems to the size i needed)

dress
McCalls pattern M7320
enough fabric to suit your size (i got 5 yards and cut the pattern for a size 20, and then took the dress in to my size which is closer to a 14/16)
notions/trim/zipper
tulle (i sewed the trim onto the tulle first, and then put the tulle on the dress. i did this horribly unfortunately as my chest is always bigger than what i think)
interfacing
thread (have extra bobbins on hand tho)
optional: walking foot attachment for my sewing machine. this made everything go so well with the material that i chose, and i was able to make this dress in record time. shout out to Kris Jade for the suggestion, i am forever grateful my love.
optional, but HIGHLY recommended-- Superboard cutting board. i don't have a formal workshop for my cosplays. everything i make is in my bedroom. i invested in this $20.00 cutting board for cutting my pattern out and it made everything amazing.

also, strongly recommend for you to invest in the rotary scissors vs. the traditional ones, to make your cuts smoother and more even.

i also used 2 beauty blenders, hot glue, hair combs and a bag of braiding hair for the odango buns.

this was a dream come true. i still needed to add a bow to the back of the dress, and i need more tulle and interfacing for the top part, but i'm super pleased with how everything came out, especially given the time i started on it. i'm most proud of the crown, and the white dress (minus the trim lol.)
