video blog: preordered the Galaxy Note 8 with Best Buy and i'm mad.
filmed 9/18
update: phone received 9/19 safe and sound, hallelujah.
what's good? how ya doin? it's ya girl dee back with a technology blog. HALLELUJAH finally, the note 8 has arrived. i love my pixel, but i love my Note even more. pre-orders for the note 8 arrived on august 24th for verizon and best buy also allowed pre-orders with an incentive to get $150 off the cost of the phone. which lowered the monthly payment if it were financed. VZW and Samsung direct were offering bomb deals for those of us who still have a Note 7, but i went ahead with Best Buy for the discount incentive. and i will never do it again. the shipping, for a pre-order, and the order confirmation were misleading.
the word "pre-order" is pretty subjective. any other time i've pre-ordered with VZW directly, i've received my phone on the day of the launch. no exceptions. this time i pre-ordered through best buy and was under the same impression/assumption (my fault) that it was generally the same. you pre-ordered, you would have it on launch day. never mind the fact that alot of people who pre-ordered with others got their phone way ahead of the launch date. but i was patient. my confirmation said it would be here by the 15th. shipping notification came and then it was updated to the 19th. WTH? where did that come in? didn't i pay for expensive shipping? (best buy never confirmed and my insiders didn't have access to the information unfortunately.)
in addition to this, phone theft is on the rise and there have been reported instances of the Note 8 being "lost." or "stolen." here's a thread detailing one user's experience:
therefore i wanted to make sure that my phone got to me safe and secure. but with limited information, it's hard to assure that. so i have no choice but to contact UPS, the package handler for my phone. here's our conversation.
again, at the time that this is being uploaded, my phone HAS arrived safe and secure, and i'm in the process of activating it. thankfully there's nothing further to worry about. but i still wanted to share my experience as well if there was anyone else who may have been frustrated.
what about you? did you pre-order your Note 8? did you have a horrible experience with Best Buy? was their customer service handy? let me know in the comments section below. and as always, thanks for watching.
