We love Idols, we are Aquaria! #jtalent entry (1)

We came together to create a video entry for the Pop Culture section of the Japan Foundation's #Jtalent competition. We are constantly inspired by idols, and looking back on all our projects over the past few years really is incredible. We have edited footage from our performances over the past few years. Thank you so much for this wonderful opportunity to create a video for this incredible competition. We are absolutely delighted to take part in it and we are looking forward to our futures together. Thank you again, Japan Foundation!

SCRIPT:
Idols. The Japanese performers who shine so brightly on stage, and create an amazing atmosphere for their crowd. They inspire everyone to put on a smile, and be the best they can be. Their commitment to singing, dancing and putting on an amazing show is truly admirable.

We want to be able to bring joy to others just like they do, but could six girls from Australia really become idols?... You better believe it! We are Aquaria, the Australian idols!! Aquaria originally started as a Love Live Sunshine dance cover group, but in recent years we have branched out into many different areas. We have gained confidence in our singing, and our dancing has improved tremendously.

Now, we cover many idol and j-pop songs, our favourite groups to cover are Wasuta, Cy8er, and Momorio Clover Z. Learning songs in Japanese can be difficult, but we always strive to do our best and perform the song beautifully. We are well on our way to becoming true idols, and one of our dreams is to write and record an original song! Recently, we have started learning more about music production to help us with this goal.

Aquaria has had the pleasure of performing at many community events here in Brisbane, and across Australia! Such as Brisbane Matsuri, Summer Party and more. We have also competed in a few cosplay competitions, winning awards at gold coast Supanova and madman festival Brisbane. However, COVID-19 has made it difficult for us to perform for a live crowd. To combat this, we have taken to online video uploads and streaming. Adapting to a new situation can be challenging at first, but we are happy our online shows can reach even more people across the world. Though we do miss the amazing energy of the crowd, and seeing all the lightsticks in the audience, so hopefully we will be able to perform live again very soon!

Each of our members has their own unique interests and hobbies, but what we all have in common is our creativity! Some of our hobbies include digital art, filmmaking, editing, fashion design, cheerleading, and ballet dancing, just to name a few. Despite being from different backgrounds, we come together to perform and make the impossible happen. We love what we can do as a group, and we each bring our different areas of expertise to make Aquaria even stronger.

We hand-sew many of our own costumes, create our own promotional images with digital art and graphic design, edit our own videos for online upload, and so much more! We are always growing and learning new skills. Being in Aquaria is a challenge, but we always support each other, believe in ourselves, and have lots of fun along the way! We are Aquaria, and our J-Talent is being idols!
