The Aftermath of Kpop Demon Hunters

Being excited over a new piece of media is great, but what's not great is the way that people are so quick to overlook crucial details. When it comes to media that showcases a different culture, it is essential to approach that culture respectfully. In this video, we unpack the major controversies within the cosplay community as a result of KDH becoming incredibly popular in a short period of time.

My goal in having this conversation is to add to the discussion in a way that amplifies the voices of those who have been affected by culturally appropriating cosplays. My thoughts on this matter are not meant to be taken as an alternative to listening to Korean people. I hope that hearing from someone else will help provide understanding to those who previously did not understand the gravity of the situation.

I also want to add that it is OKAY to not understand why these matters are important. What is most important is how you RESPOND to not understanding. The proper response to not understanding is to do your research, ask respectful questions, and keep an open mind to criticism. But just remember- it is not anyone else's job to educate you. It is YOUR job to educate YOURSELF!! Other people's perspectives are a gift and a resource, but they cannot be what you completely depend on.
